All those big-hearted electricians at the Springhill and CRM plants of BHP Coated Steel should take a bow.

Instead of pocketing a one-off pay rise of $150 each, the guys decided to put on a series of parties for kids from Camp Quality last week at BHP's Hillside in Figtree.

It all started out as a simple barbecue, but word spread quickly, and they soon had a flood of offers from local companies, restaurants, hotels and entertainment outlets.

Our spies tell us the kids and their parents had a ball, completely overwhelmed by what they thought was going to be just a sausage sizzle.

Organiser Rio Sticotti said he and his workmates reckon it was the best $150 they ever spent.
